How to tell if contractor leads are worth bidding

Check whether contractor leads are worth bidding by reviewing project fit, location, timing, scope, decision authority, estimate cost, and close potential.

A contractor should not bid every inquiry. The request must fit the trade, service area, project size, timing, and likelihood that the buyer can approve the work.

Read the evidence in three passes.

Step 01

Check project fit

Confirm trade, location, project type, scope, timing, site conditions, budget expectations, and any job minimum.

Step 02

Check the buyer

Identify decision authority, other bidders, access for an estimate, urgency, and whether the buyer can answer scope questions.

Step 03

Check bid economics

Compare estimate effort, travel, close probability, gross-margin fit, and the next commitment required from the buyer.

What a useful result looks like.

A bid-worthy lead fits the work, can be estimated efficiently, has a reachable decision maker, and has enough value and close potential to justify the bid.
