A hidden record now has a deletion date
Google deprecated the Business Profile Follow feature and Welcome Offers in 2021. The offers stopped appearing to consumers but remained visible to businesses in their post history.
A Google employee announced on September 8 that those legacy records will be permanently deleted after September 22 because the replacement storage system will not support them.
Export only if the history has a real use
Google directs businesses to Google Takeout if they want a copy. Decide first whether the old offers support legal, financial, brand, or operating records. Do not create another indefinite archive without an owner.
Our recommendation: export the smallest relevant Business Profile data set, save the request date, and open the downloaded archive before the deadline. A completed Takeout request is not proof that the needed record is present.
Current posts are outside this change
Google says active posts, scheduled posts, and other Business Profile data are not affected. Keep that boundary in internal notes so the deadline does not become a claim that all post history is being deleted.
After the export, store the file with appropriate access and retention controls. Business Profile archives can contain more data than the old offer text a marketing team was trying to preserve.

What to check next
- Confirm whether the business ever used legacy Welcome Offers.
- Decide whether the old records have a defined retention purpose.
- Request the relevant Business Profile export before September 22.
- Open the archive and verify the needed records are present.
- Assign an owner, access rule, and retention date to the saved copy.
Sources and scope
Google says the deletion applies only to legacy welcome offers that were already hidden from consumers. Active posts, scheduled posts, and other Business Profile data are not affected by this announcement.
