SEO and AI search · authority
Authority comes from resolving a real field of decisions with evidence, not from manufacturing every wording variation as a URL.

Direct answer
Build authority around the real decisions customers make.
01 · Design the topic around decisions
Begin with the buyer’s sequence: recognize a problem, understand the options, evaluate risk, choose an approach, implement it, and measure the outcome. Each public page must own a distinct job in that sequence. A supporting page is justified when it needs different evidence, a different method, or a different next action.
| Page type | Job | Original value |
|---|---|---|
| Owner guide | Resolve a complete decision or procedure | Method, conditions, failure modes, sources |
| Comparison | Choose between viable alternatives | Decision criteria and when each wins |
| Case file | Show what happened in a bounded situation | Evidence, limits, and transferable lesson |
| Reference | Define a durable concept or system | Precise definition and relationships |
| Pulse | Explain a dated change | What changed, who it affects, and what to check |
This is why these 100 questions are not becoming 100 thin pages. Twenty owner pages can answer them more completely while keeping each page useful, differentiated, and maintainable.
02 · Add what a generic synthesis cannot
Original does not require inventing a new theory. Add something from the business or the work: a tested rule, annotated screenshot, calculator, comparison, field observation, source dataset, template, failure log, or bounded case.
Link primary documentation and separate observed facts from inference or opinion.
Explain what is checked, in what order, what fails, and what changes the decision.
A matrix, manifest, specification, or checklist should let the reader act without contacting the publisher.
SEO remains worth doing because crawlability, indexing, internal links, clear page ownership, and helpful content are also prerequisites for Google’s AI experiences. Google’s current guidance says there are no special AI files or schema requirements beyond ordinary Search eligibility.
03 · Earn local relevance
A local business needs accurate profile data, appropriate categories, current hours and contact information, genuine reviews, and substantiated local service pages.
Profile accuracyCategories, hours, contact data, and service details match the real business.
Customer evidenceReviews come from genuine service, with a sustainable request process.
Local proofEach location page names real availability, delivery, constraints, and a useful next step.
There is no universal number of Google reviews required to rank. The competitive set, rating distribution, review recency, relevance, and the rest of the local system vary by query and geography. Base the target on visible local competitors, not a magic threshold.
Programmatic local pages cross into doorway behavior when near-identical pages funnel many places or phrases to the same destination. A location page needs distinct operational evidence.
Questions this owner resolves
Q061
Yes, when SEO means making useful pages crawlable, indexable, technically sound, and clearly owned. Google says its generative AI search features rely on core Search ranking and quality systems, so foundational SEO remains relevant. The opportunity and click pattern can change by query, which means the business should measure visibility, qualified visits, and downstream demand instead of assuming every ranking will produce the old click rate.
Use this rule: Continue SEO where the query reaches a real buyer decision and the page adds non-commodity value; stop publishing commodity variations merely to occupy keywords.
Example: Track 20 buyer-decision queries for eight weeks: conventional visibility, observed AI citations, qualified organic visits, and resulting leads. Continue work where pages improve a useful decision signal; do not call the program successful because impressions rise while qualified demand falls.
Field note: AI visibility does not replace page ownership. An answer still needs a crawlable source that can carry the complete method, evidence, and next decision.
Q066
Map the real decisions buyers make, assign one complete owner to each decision, and publish only when the page adds evidence, experience, a procedure, calculation, or artifact. Link the sequence in the order a reader would use it. Google now advises against commodity content and separate pages for every query variation, especially when scale exists mainly to influence rankings or generative answers.
Use this rule: A proposed page ships only if it has a distinct reader job and something useful that the existing owner cannot absorb without becoming confusing.
Example: Twelve complete owner pages with calculations, sources, and clear links can cover a topic better than 100 near-duplicate question pages that restate the same advice.
Field note: Authority grows from a coherent decision system. Page count is inventory, and excess inventory can hide the page that actually answers the question.
Q067
Improve the factors Google names: relevance, distance, and prominence. Verify the Business Profile, keep categories, services, hours, address, and contact details accurate, earn genuine reviews, respond to them, and strengthen the website and citations that confirm the business. Distance cannot be optimized away. Never create fake locations or doorway pages to pretend the business is closer to the searcher.
Use this rule: Prioritize completeness and evidence of real service relevance; reject any tactic that depends on a false address, false service area, or manufactured review activity.
Example: Track a fixed grid of local queries from the same locations each month, alongside calls, directions, and qualified leads. Do not treat one rank checked from the office as the market view.
Field note: Local rank is location-dependent. A single screenshot can make a weak footprint look strong because it records one searcher position, not the whole service area.

Q068
There is no universal review count that guarantees local rankings. Google says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance, and prominence, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help prominence. Set a market-specific target: compare legitimate review count, recency, rating distribution, and response quality with the businesses that appear for your priority services, then build a steady, policy-compliant request process.
Use this rule: If the visible local competitors have materially more recent legitimate reviews, close the recency and volume gap gradually; if review strength is comparable, prioritize category, service, location, and website relevance instead of chasing an arbitrary count.
Example: If the relevant local competitors have a median of 50 reviews and the business has 18, four review requests per week at a 25% completion rate would add about four reviews per month and close a 32-review gap in roughly eight months.
Field note: Track reviews by service and customer language, not just total count; repeated mentions of the work performed can expose demand and messaging gaps even though review text is not a controllable ranking lever.
Q069
Programmatic SEO becomes doorway or scaled-content abuse when many pages target near-identical queries mainly to capture rankings, then funnel visitors to the same destination without adding distinct value. A defensible page must solve a different user job with page-specific facts, evidence, constraints, and next steps. Changing a city, industry, or keyword in a shared template does not make the page useful or original.
Use this rule: Publish a separate page only when its intent, evidence, answer, and decision path are materially different; otherwise consolidate variants into one stronger page with navigable sections.
Example: Fifty city pages with the same 900 words and only the city name changed are high risk; five location pages with verified service availability, local requirements, real examples, unique FAQs, and a local next action may each justify a separate page.
Field note: Template variance is not information gain; audit the facts that would disappear if the location or segment name were removed.
Q070
Marketing content is genuinely original when it contributes information or judgment a reader cannot obtain by recombining the same search results: first-party observations, a disclosed method, a tested framework, an artifact, a worked decision, or a defensible point of view. Citations establish provenance; they do not create originality. The page should make clear what was observed, how it was evaluated, and what the reader should do differently.
Use this rule: Do not publish if the page's unique claims, examples, and decision rules can be removed without changing the answer; add first-party evidence or consolidate it into a stronger existing page.
Example: A summary of 20 articles is synthesis, not necessarily originality. An analysis of 100 queries that publishes its selection method, citation patterns, exclusions, and resulting page decisions creates a reproducible contribution.
Field note: Keep an evidence ledger linking every distinctive claim to a screenshot, dataset, experiment, interview, or calculation; the ledger improves both editorial review and future updates.
