BigCommerce wishlist links need a custom-theme check before September 26

Wishlist breadcrumbs will return complete URLs. A theme that adds its own domain can create a broken address.

The supplied URL will already include the domain

BigCommerce says Stencil wishlist-detail and public wishlist-share breadcrumbs will use absolute URLs from September 26, 2026. Custom themes that prepend a domain or base path must render the supplied URL directly instead.

Default Cornerstone breadcrumbs already do this and need no change. The issue is a specific customization pattern, not a reason to rebuild every BigCommerce storefront.

Inspect the template before changing it

Our recommendation: ask the theme developer to find the wishlist breadcrumb template and check how it forms each link. If the supplied value is already used directly, record that finding and leave the code alone.

Where a custom prefix exists, review the revised output in a preview. Check the actual link destination as well as the visible breadcrumb label. A label can look correct while its address contains the domain twice.

Test the shared wishlist as a visitor

Wishlist sharing can bring a new visitor into the store outside the usual category and product path. Test both a customer's wishlist-detail page and a public shared link.

Use a signed-out session for the public page. Confirm that the breadcrumb leads to the intended destination, then keep the change small enough to reverse if the template behaves differently after the platform update.

What to check next

  1. Check whether custom wishlist breadcrumbs add a domain or base path.
  2. Change only the affected URL construction and test it in preview.
  3. Verify both customer wishlist details and a signed-out shared wishlist.

Sources and scope

Default Cornerstone breadcrumbs and other themes already rendering the supplied URL directly need no change.
