ChatGPT Ads adds conversion-optimized campaigns
OpenAI now documents an oCPC objective that optimizes toward one standard conversion event. Advertisers still pay per valid click, and the event choice cannot be changed after the campaign is created.

Verdict
Use oCPC only when the conversion event already deserves more delivery.
The new objective changes which clicks the platform tries to find. It does not repair a weak page, a noisy event, a slow sales response, or an outcome that the business cannot reconcile.
A supported standard event fires correctly, represents a meaningful next step, and can be checked against the CRM, booking, or store record.
The only reliable event is a page view, shallow engagement, or unqualified form submission that occurs often but predicts little business value.
The selected event is wrong, measurement cannot be trusted, or the campaign crosses the approved learning-cost boundary.
What changed
ChatGPT Ads now has three distinct optimization paths.
OpenAI's current campaign guidance lists CPM for scale and reach, CPC for engagement and traffic, and oCPC for downstream actions after a click. In Ads Manager, an advertiser creates a new campaign, selects the Conversions objective, and chooses one supported standard conversion event.
The ad group receives a bid cap. That cap is the maximum the advertiser can pay for a click in an auction. OpenAI does not currently provide a recommended oCPC bid amount.
The important limit is structural: existing CPM or CPC campaigns cannot be converted to oCPC. The objective cannot be changed after creation. The selected conversion event also cannot be changed. A different event requires a different campaign.
Objective guide
Choose the buying model from the business question.
Reach
Use when visibility and exposure are the immediate result. Pay per 1,000 impressions and set a maximum CPM bid.
Do not call reach a sale.Clicks
Use when the landing page is ready and qualified site traffic is the immediate learning goal. Pay per valid click.
Do not call curiosity a buyer.Conversions
Use when one supported event is trustworthy enough to guide delivery. Pay per valid click while the campaign seeks clicks more likely to produce that event.
Do not optimize a weak signal. If a lead form fires for spam, a purchase event omits refunds, or a sign-up event includes low-value registrations, oCPC can become more efficient at producing the wrong result. Confirm the event before creating the campaign.
Five checks
Make the event earn the right to guide delivery.
- It fires correctly. The event occurs once for the intended action and carries the expected parameters.
- It is supported. The event is a standard conversion event available for oCPC selection, not a custom event.
- It is commercially meaningful. The action is close enough to a qualified lead, booking, sale, or renewal to guide spend.
- It reconciles. The Ads Manager event can be compared with analytics and the final business record.
- It has a stop rule. The business has named the quality, cost, policy, or measurement condition that pauses the test.

Freeze the baseline
Save the event, objective, bid cap, budget, ad groups, destinations, tracking, and stop condition.
Check the path
Confirm delivery, final URLs, sessions, event firing, and inquiry or purchase handoff.
Allow reporting time
OpenAI says attributed conversions can take 24 to 48 hours to appear. Compare the same time zone and dates.
Inspect concentration
Look at campaign, ad-group, and ad delivery without changing every element at once.
Make one decision
Continue, repair one proven constraint, narrow, pause, or stop using the platform, page, and business evidence together.
