Bills are moving into the same app as customer conversations
Meta announced WhatsApp bill payments in India on September 3. The feature uses the Bharat Connect network and covers 22,722 billers across 30 categories, including electricity, gas, water, insurance, credit cards, and loan repayments.
People can view past payments and upcoming bills, manage more than one account with a provider, and choose a payment method. Access is rolling out gradually to Android and iOS users across India over the coming weeks.
Support language must match the feature a customer can see
A customer may now ask a business about a payment screen inside WhatsApp. Train support staff to identify whether the question concerns the consumer bill-payment area, a business chat, or the business's own payment process.
Our recommendation: write one short support note. It should name the screens the team can help with and the point where the customer needs the biller, Bharat Connect, or WhatsApp support.
Do not advertise access before the rollout reaches the user
The announcement describes a gradual rollout, not immediate access for every person. Check the actual device and account before publishing instructions that assume the bill-payment option is present.
The new consumer feature also does not prove that every business can collect bills through its own WhatsApp account. Keep product availability, business capability, and successful payment confirmation as three separate checks.

What to check next
- Check Android and iOS accounts for the bill-payment option.
- List the payment questions customer support can answer directly.
- Send biller and Bharat Connect issues to the correct support owner.
- Publish instructions only after the feature appears on the tested account.
- Keep consumer availability separate from the business's own payment capabilities.
Sources and scope
The consumer feature is rolling out gradually across India over the coming weeks. Meta's announcement does not add a bill-payment feature to every business account or establish access outside India.
The announcement is confirmed by the source below. Practical checks in this article are Stan Consulting's recommendations.
