How to audit your Google Business Profile in 10 minutes.

Use ten minutes to check access, business details and the contact path. Repairs or verification may take longer. Google says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence; no checklist guarantees ranking.

Check the lead-quality path before buying more visibility.

Why this guide matters: Local traffic, directory leads, calls, or quote requests are not becoming booked jobs. Lead costs rise while bad-fit inquiries, weak follow-up, or trust gaps block booked work. Use the guide to check the pattern before buying another local lead source.

01

Sign in to business.google.com.

Use the Google account that manages the profile. If you lack access, ask an existing owner to add you or follow Google’s ownership-request process. Do not create a duplicate profile to work around access.

02

Check your primary category.

Choose the available category that best describes the business. In Edit profile, review Business category and select from Google’s list; do not invent a category or add keywords to the business name. See Google’s category guidance.

03

Check completeness.

Check the real business name, phone, website, hours, services and service area. Follow the business eligibility and address rules; a home address is not automatically a public storefront. Correct inaccurate fields and test the website and phone destinations.

04

Check customer-facing updates.

Remove expired offers and keep photos, hours and service information useful. Post when there is something relevant to tell customers. Google does not publish a weekly posting threshold or a 90-day inactivity ranking penalty. See how Google describes local ranking.

05

Check review recency.

Review the timing and distribution of recent reviews alongside total count. If activity has stalled, rebuild a compliant review-request process and monitor the result.

06

Check for suggested edits.

Check Google updates and suggested edits against the real business details. Accept accurate corrections and correct inaccurate changes. Do not assume who submitted an edit.
